Our Story

In May 2009, with about 6 weeks until the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, a few of us at Wendy’s Restaurants were talking about our local children’s charities. They work so hard to offer opportunities for our local children and they really make a difference in this community.

From that discussion we thought, ‘…why don’t we organize a way to have a “Walk” at the Dick’s Open, that would benefit our local children directly. Golf enthusiasts come to the tournament and walk around the course for several days…let’s turn that “Walk” into something productive for our local children’s community.’

And so it began, the journey of Wendy’s Walk for Kids, a non-profit team of hard-working people who will do everything we can to support our local children’s charities.

We scrambled to pull together as many people as were willing to support this cause. No doubt everyone either has kids (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.), knows kids, or at the very least, we know they once were a kid!

The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, along with the PGA Champions Tour have been absolutely incredible to work with. Their support and the opportunities they’ve offered to us in growing the Walk are immeasurable.

We continue to be amazed and inspired by the participation and support for the Wendy’s Walk for Kids. From the volunteers who: have stood in the freezing rain at our year-round fundraiser events; spend days at the Dick’s Open, setting up our Walk tents; the participants who raise and collect funds; the local businesses who sponsor us; the people nationwide who visit us on-line to make a donation; all the way to those who meet us at the Dick’s Open for the first time.

As we continue to grow throughout the years, we are so grateful to all who support us in our journey to raise funds for our local children’s charities.

Thanks for stopping by today, and we look forward to seeing you again, or meeting you for the first time…
